Talk About Parenting with Shirlee Smith, Inc. launched with Shirlee's popular cable television program, "Talk About Parenting," initially seen only in Pasadena, later syndicated in over 45 communities nationwide, including greater Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and New York City.

In the past decade, a book, They're Your Children Not Your Friends made its debut, as did numerous well-received workshops designed specifically for parents and hosted at diverse venues.

The organization now produces a variety of products, including:

Antonovich; Philanthropist, Adelaide Hixon; City of Pasadena Northwest Programs; individual contributions.

Linda Lavin
A career counselor for more than 15 years in university and non-profit settings, Lavin is currently a counselor at Women At Work, a non-profit career education and resource center in Pasadena, California. She helps women and men of all ages with diverse educational backgrounds attain their job and career goals. Lavin holds a master's degree in Behavioral Psychology

Pamela Mims
After 14 years as a legal secretary, Pamela Mims, a single parent, resolved to work at home and be with her then 4-year-old daughter.  She launched In A Word... Secretarial Services in 1991, and took business-training classes with her 4-year-old in tow. Despite initial slow growth, Pam persevered, gained more clients, expanded her services and found her niche -- professional organizing.  Pamela has a passion for turning piles into files and getting offices and people organized.

Another passion is helping senior citizens by reviewing and organizing their important documents to avoid/prevent senior citizen fraud, lapsed bill payments and special services to protect them during their retirement years. Pamela also lends support to other small businesses and non-profit community organizations.

Ivan Light, Ph.D., Emeritus
Ivan Light specializes in urban sociology with an emphasis on entrepreneurship,and immigration. He is the author of numerous textbooks. He is a member of the American Association and the International Sociological Association. He frequently lectures abroad, and is a professor at UCLA. Married and the father of two college students, Lights says, "Parents must read to their children at least a half an hour everyday!

Roosevelt Richardson Jr.
Richardson holds a bachelor of Science degree in management from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles. He retired in 1995 as an Information Systems manager for the City of Los Angeles. He has served as Committee Chairperson for the Los Angeles Federal Credit Union and as Credit Committee chairperson for that same organization. Rosey, as he is called, enjoys spending time on the golf course, listening to and playing music and flying his single engine aircraft. He is married, father of two and grandfather of four.

Greta Pruitt, EdD
Greta Pruitt is an educator, parent and grandparent. Born in Iowa, she moved to USC at a young age, married a USC athlete and came to Pasadena as the bride of a new teacher. The next 55 years were filled with teaching, school administration, parenting and trying to become a good person. Greta says she joined the Board of Talk about Parenting to lend a hand to parents who hold the world's future in their hands--and to enjoy Shirlee's remarkable humor and savvy!

Joseph Ho, Ph.D.
Joseph Ho, Ph.D., has over 20 years of professional experience working in human services. He has a doctorate in psychology and holds a graduate degree in theology. He has on-going involvement with families from a wide range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.  He is fluent in two Chinese languages. He is the Associate Divisional Director of the Child and Family Division at Pacific Clinics and the father of two adult daughters.

Trevor Bryant
Trevor Bryant is an independent consultant, entrepreneur, graphic designer and writer. He is the author of "How to make $50,000 - Tax Free." He is former Senior Vice-President and Creative Director for Sony Development and also a former Director and Executive Director, Research and Development Division founder and Creative Director for Disney. He is married and the father of two school-age youth one attending Pasadena public schools and the other a student at Westridge School for Girls. The family has lived in Altadena, California for the past 10-years.

Brenda Dabney, Esq
Brenda Dabney is currently California State Coordinator for the Home At Last Initiative. She is a former Supervising Attorney with the Children's Law Center of Los Angeles. As a longtime child advocate, she has represented thousands of children in dependency court, served as trial counsel on several high-profile cases, and handled complex legal issues involving abused and neglected children and youth. She serves as the Los Angeles President of the National Association of Counsel for Children. Dabney grew up in Los Angeles and now lives with her husband in Culver City, California.
